This was an unplaced entry in the Wolfe Tone Square (St. Mary's Graveyard) Competition. Two conditions dictated the approach; the need for a still space in the city and the need to preserve and respect the dead (still buried) under the square.

Still space
Taking inspiration from Magritte the space at the heart of the project is screened using the existing railings, a series of Brick frames and by the dense planting of Birch trees. Views through each successive screen are limited but allows for transparency while sheltering the occupant from wind and noise and pollution.

Respect the dead
Two memorials are created; a circular one for those buried in the old graveyard, a square one for Wolfe Tone. The diagonal connection from Jervis street cuts through to the front of St. Mary's.
