| Recent Projects | The Island Crematorium, an award winning facility for the final rituals for all denominations is based on the sensitive refurbishment of a 19th century gunpowder store on an Island in Cork Harbour and consists of a cremator, ritual space, family room, refreshment room, offices and staff facilities. The design principle was to keep the interventions to a few strong simple gestures and strip the building back to its original form and inhabit the resulting spaces in a sympathetic and reversible arrangement. The Barnardos project consists of a 750m2 childcare facility on a 0.11 hectare site in the northside of Cork City. The stand alone two storey L-shaped building has street access on two levels. The lower level accommodates the crèche, administration and courtyard garden. The use of specifically landscaped external spaces as play, social and teaching space is part of this approach. The Mayfield Medical Centre is a 2100m2 multipurpose medical services facility of up to three floors of medical services accommodation in a campus arrangement. The scheme achieves a multiple unit “one stop shop” medical facility on a relatively tight site with options for flexibility and expansion if required. The Coppinger Court project consists of 43 apartments and retail/commercial overlooking the river Lee in a series of terraces overlooked by the spires of St Anne’s, Shandon and the North Cathedral. The scheme knits into the urban grain of Shandon, an area characterised by a network of pedestrian wide streets and lanes which crisscross the hill between key buildings and urban spaces. The Monahan’s Road mixed use development proposal consists of a crèche, 5 own door ground floor units, 13 two storey duplexes, and 6 penthouse apartments on a site on the edge of the proposed Marina Ecological Park in Cork Docklands. The proposed building occupies the northern boundary of the site providing a street edge and giving over the majority of the site for a south facing landscaped shared garden. |
