New plaza to be part of Metro North rail system

The Sunday Business Post

A plaza that will have capacity for thousands of fans travelling to and from Croke Park for matches and concerts, will form part of the Metro North rail system. The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) will issue invitations to tender to the four consortiums bidding to construct the 19-kilometre system - from Swords to St Stephen’s Green with underground stations - in the next 12 weeks. Transport sources connected to the project indicated it would cost around €3.2 billion. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of next year, with almost half the route through underground tunnels. The RPA has said it will consider, on a ‘‘case-by-case’’ basis, covering the cost of temporary accommodation for any residents ‘‘seriously disturbed’’ by the metro construction works.
