The Irish Times

A cottage near Belfast which featured in a television competition is to receive a £2.3 million (€3.4 million) revamp. McCleave's lock and lock-keeper's cottage, located along the Lagan canal, will receive £1.6 million in lottery funding. The two-storey house featured in the BBC series Restoration three years ago, and received 27,000 votes in favour of its redevelopment. The cottage was previously owned by the Lagan Navigation Company and played a key role in the canal system which served Northern Ireland. The cottage, which was built between 1827 and 1934, was bought by the lock-keeper's family when the company was dissolved in 1954. They later sold it on to Castlereagh Borough Council.
