The Irish Times is expected to decide on the future of its D'Olier Street offices before the end of the month. Sources said the newspaper is considering being a joint venture partner in the redevelopment of the building, which will become vacant when it moves to new offices owned by Dublin City Council on Tara Street. The sources said the site is likely to be redeveloped for residential use and that there is some infill capacity on it. A mansard roof could also be added on top of the building to provide additional apartments, subject to planning. Residential use is the most likely final fate for the building, as it would be difficult and expensive to bring it up to contemporary commercial standards. Westmoreland Street has high footfall levels, but the vast majority of it is concentrated on the other side of the street, which makes retail use unlikely.
