A Town Council has received over 200 submissions about the controversial proposed restructuring of one of Ireland's most famous cathedrals, St. Colman's in Cobh - with the vast majority vehemently opposed to the project. Now, Cobh Town Council faces a planning wrangle over the redesign of the cathedral's interior, proposed by the Bishop of Cloyne, Dr John Magee. Cllr Sean O'Connor (Ind) has proposed the plan be rejected - with a majority of the Town Council already voicing concerns over the necessity of the controversial interior redesign which, Diocesan authorities insist is required to bring St. Colman's into line with Vatican II guidelines. The plan has split the local congregation - with a majority opposed to the project and demanding that the Pugin-designed cathedral be left exactly as it is.
