Locals object to 32-storey tower

The Irish Times

The construction of a 32-storey tower block in Dublin's docklands would "aggravate the increasingly claustrophobic feeling" of Barrow Street, according to one of over 20 submissions to developer Johnny Ronan and Richard Barrett's plans to build a residential tower overlooking Grand Canal Dock. The developers' plans, which involve the construction of one 32-storey and one nine-storey residential tower on a site between and including 35 to 35A Barrow Street, have attracted widespread criticism from local residents. The scheme, if it gets the go-ahead from Dublin City Council, will involve the construction of a tower, which would be one of the tallest buildings in Ireland. It will comprise 150 one and two-bed apartments, a café, a shop, a nightclub and a public viewing tower between the top two levels of the tallest tower.
