Hoardings to be cleared from the Loopline bridge

The Sunday Business Post

One of Dublin's eyesores, the Loopline railway bridge crossing the Liffey, has been targeted by Iarnród Éireann for a clean-up involving the removal of the billboards advertising alcoholic drinks. Income from the hoardings on the Loopline bridge is understood to be worth more than €200,000 a year to the company. Iarnród Éireann is negotiating with Dublin City Council to remove them by next year. It will recoup the losses by obtaining ten new sites for 'tri-vision' images - three changing images on one billboard. The railway bridge, opened in 1891, was built amid widespread opposition at the time, as it blocks the view from up river of James Gandon's 18th century Custom House.
