Amid the prosecco, antipasti and chat of the endless parties, Ireland's installation at the Venice Architecture Biennale - opened with a performance by Gerard Mannix Flynn - has clearly got something to say. This is the country's first 'pavilion' at the Biennale and the third time it's exhibited in any form. It's not among the established countries with its own building in the luscious public Giardini, (where Britain's cheerful, straightforward show, commissioned by Peter Cook, includes a great video account of the installation of Ian Ritchie's Dublin Spire). Nor is it part of the main drag of the international exhibition (curated by the Biennale director Kurt Forster and designed by curvy specialist Asymptote), though heneghan.peng's Dun Laoghaire Carlisle Pier features in this.
