Radical scheme to build town for soaring population

The Irish Independent

A whole new town at Adamstown for a growing population - and a face lift for the Naas Road - will be two key elements in the South Dublin County Council strategy. The population of the county, now at 230,000, is expected to swell by around 15,000 by 2010 with the number of households predicted to expand by over 18,000. It is estimated that nearly 18,500 units of housing will be needed by 2010. The council said that to establish and maintain sustainable residential communities, higher residential densities will be encouraged at appropriate locations within the county, the most prominent at Adamstown. "One of the most exciting housing developments in the country will be taking place at Adamstown where a whole new town will be built," said John Hannon, Chairman of the South County Dublin Development Board.
