What a corker
ABK Architects has won a competition to design new civic offices for Cork City Council in Ireland. The practice beat four others to the appointment and has now lodged a planning application for the 9,200sq m scheme. The new building, to be connected to the existing town hall, is set to include innovative "vent towers" for natural ventilation and concrete ceilings chilled by the flow of ground water. Construction work is due to begin by the end of the year.
