Call for 'monstrous' building to be levelled

The Irish Times

A member of Galway City Council has called for the demolition of a partially built apartment block more than two years after work on the site was brought to a halt by planning officials. Residents of New Road and Henry Street have pledged to oppose a new application by the developers to have the building retained, 27 months after council planning staff halted construction work due to allegations of planning irregularities. Marfield Developments have lodged a new planning application with the council to circumvent a ruling by An Bord Pleanála last February, which ordered them to demolish a part of the building which was erected without planning permission.
