Housing awards show it's time for a rethink
This year's RIAI awards for housing schemes demonstrate that the one-size-fits-all approach is on the way out, as we start to readdress our needs and demand higher standards of design. De Blacam and Meagher's building on the corner of Castle Street and Werburgh Street in Dublin has won this year's RIAI Housing Medal. Judging by the clever composition of the exterior and the beauty of the penthouse apartment, it's easy to see why. Most people would ache to live there, with its south-facing views out to the Dublin mountains across the lusciously planted roof terrace.
