The new monument in Dublin is a towering feat of artistry and engineering, says Shane O'Toole. Dublin city council aims to have the spire of Dublin, symbol of the city's renaissance, erected by Christmas. It seems appropriate that Ian Ritchie's Monument of Light — conceived as a 21st-century interpretation of standing stones and obelisks — should be unveiled at the darkest time of the year.
