Incentive to get near the art action in Dublin city
The Georgian houses beside the Hugh Lane Gallery - numbers 20 and 21 Parnell Square North - are to be sold by tender by Dublin City Council, which bought them in the early 1990s. Dublin City Council says there are no guide prices on the properties "because they are old houses in need of a lot of work." The two-storey over basement rear returns of the houses are being knocked to make way for the newly approved €7.6 million rear extension to the Hugh Lane Gallery designed by Gilroy McMahon architects and will span more than three levels with a basement café, bookshop, children's education studio, resource facilities and a disabled persons' lift.
