A unique medieval castle complex, with links to William Shakespeare's patron, will be destroyed when work on the South Eastern Motorway at Carrickmines, Dublin, resumes on August 30. Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council confirmed last week that a motorway and interchange would be built on the site which, experts say, rivals Wood Quay in terms of archaeological importance. Medievalists, archaeologists and conservationists, however, say the council is making a big mistake destroying a site which is unparalleled in Ireland.
