A major new development estimated to cost close to €50m is on the drawing board for the Irish Distillers headquarters site at Smithfield, Dublin 7. The new scheme is the Irish Distillers response to the massive Smithfield regeneration drive now well under way in the area. A planning application has now been submitted by Irish Distillers supremo Richard Burrows for Smithfield's historic old John Jameson distillery premises at Bow St. The proposed development will involve the construction of an office and retail development extending to a maximum of seven storeys over ground level. Nine retail/showroom/restaurant units and a ground floor creche are also envisaged accessed from Smithfield, Phoenix St., Bow St. and Church St. New.
