Lots of prestige - but not enough players
One medal, three awards, nine 'special mentions' and a staggering 108 rejections add up to the meanest AAI Awards since the scheme was started 17 years ago. Just 11 per cent of the record 121 projects submitted in good faith by architects for this year's AAI awards were regarded by a ruthless jury as good enough to be put on public exhibition. As Private Eye would put it, mimicking William Deedes, "shurely shome mishtake?"
