Councils to veto 'pretentious' estate names

From next year, the environment department is to allow councils to veto Anglicised pretentious names for Irish housing estates. Three years ago the department asked builders to stop giving developments names that bore no relation to the history or geography of the area. But the request was ignored and the appetite of the nouveaux riches for fancy sobriquets remained undiminished.
