Mortar used in restoration damaging monuments

The Irish Independent

The use of unsuitable restoration materials is damaging many of the country's priceless monuments, according to a new report which says more than one third of the monuments are now damaged and as many as one in 10 are in danger of collapse. The extensive survey of 112 stone monuments in 14 counties reveals that one in five is affected by intensive stone decay and one in three have suffered a significant loss of artistic detail.
