Countryside 'no place' for urban dwellers, says architect

Massive social problems are being created by the rocketing numbers leaving cities and towns to build first-time homes on sites in the countryside, it emerged yesterday. Those plumping for isolated rural splendour are unaware of the risks and problems including not having access to doctors and opticians in their later years, the National Housing Conference was told in Galway.John Graby, director of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, bluntly said only those with agricultural connections should live there.
