The Dublin Civic Trust was found-ed in 1992 as a voluntary organisation which would dedicate itself primarily to the protection and enhancement of the built heritage of Dublin city. The trust followed in the footsteps of the Limerick Civic Trust and similar organisations in Britain, which have achieved a great deal in restoring key buildings, promoting civic pride and undertaking a range of projects including exhibitions and publications. The Civic Trust is not a pressure group and does not seek to involve itself in planning controversies. Rather, it works in conjunction with Dublin Corporation and other public bodies whose aims include the conservation and enhancment of the city's historic fabric and amenities.
