As the northside of Dublin tries to hold onto the Abbey Theatre, another artistic landmark is making its way south of the Liffey. The Anna Livia fountain, christened the "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" by the city's inhabitants, looks set to leave her O'Connell St home as the thoroughfare gets a £300m make-over. The new location is likely to be on the southside's Pearse St, in front of the garda station. Since the fountain was given to the people of Dublin by the Smurfit family in 1988, it has attracted more litter and loiterers than tourists. Washing-up liquid is frequently added to the lady's waters, turning the fountain into a frothy eyesore. The cost of maintaining the fountain is over £20,000 a year and this is one of the main reasons Dublin Corporation has opted for a move.
