Designer Ireland - No 59: Fake Georgian door

The Sunday Times

One of the defining features of recent Irish design is pastiche, and one of the most dramatic ways this has found expression is through a rash of fake Georgian buildings. That they have been allowed to cover the centre of Dublin could be attributed to the guilty conscience of a planning department that oversaw the destruction of so many real Georgian buildings in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Arts Council
