The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Sile de Valera, announced last week that Ł100 million would be allocated over the next five years towards the conservation of state-owned monuments and heritage sites. This financial allocation, which will be made as part of the National Development Plan, is a very timely recognition by government of the need to maintain, repair and conserve the actual fabric of the man-made heritage.
