An arts centre which is beginning to take shape in Portarlington, Co Laois, will be no ordinary rehearsal hall because it will be built entirely of straw, with a roof of turf. The Laois Youth Arts Eco Rehearsal Space Project, which is the idea of Cabrini Cahill, the Laois Youth Arts Officer, should be ready by the end of the summer and will be constructed almost entirely by voluntary labour.
