The first phase of a £350m plan to transform the Dublin suburb of Ballymun was unveiled yesterday. The ugly high-rise tower blocks will be demolished to make way for an innovative low-rise, high-density housing complex. Scottish firm ARP Lorimer won the country's first higher density architectural competition for the houses that will feature at the future entrance to a new town of Ballymun. The homes will be on a 4.5-acre site and feature a mixed residential scheme for private owners, public tenants and students.
