The oral hearing by An Bord Pleanašla on a controversial high rise development at George's Quay in the Dublin docklands gets under way on Tuesday morning. The hearing, which will be held in the Royal Dublin Hotel on O'Connell Street, is due to last for four days. The firm behind the scheme, Borg Developments, is appealing the conditions laid down by Dublin Corporation when it granted planning permission for the scheme last September. The corporation reduced the height of the tallest glass tower in the development from 102 metres to 80 metres.
An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) prepared for An Bord Pleanašla in June Borg Developments, which is controlled by the Cosgrave Property Group, again reduced the height of the tower to 73 nmetres, around 15 metres higher than nearby Liberty Hall. The height of other buildings on the site was also reduced in the EIS.
