Board rejects Zoe high-rise complex over pollution risk

The Irish Independent

A MULTI-MILLION Zoe Developments high-rise plan for an old gasometer site in Dublin was shot down yesterday by An Bord Pleanala on the grounds that it was too high and threatened to cause pollution.

In a significant ruling, the planning board decided it was not satisfied that levels of soil and water contamination at the site would not pose an unacceptable risk to human health and safety and the environment.

The decision followed an independent investigation by the board into the contamination. An oral hearing for the 655 high-rise apartments, offices and shops in Ringsend had heard evidence of serious contamination by arsenic, lead and cyanide at the former gasometer site off Barrow Street and South Lotts Road.
