The l720s panelling in this room has been painted over with Victorian 'graining'. There is a display of estate maps showing the formal layout of the park, avenues and orderly plantation of trees in the l750s. Noble and Keenan's map of Kildare (1752) shows the Conolly Folly. It also shows Carton with the curved colonnades intact. THE UPPER EAST CORRIDOR Here may be seen a collection of maps of Ireland (donated by Dr Rolf Loeber, Mr Willis Van Devanter and others). Lady Lousia's private apartment and the principal bedrooms are on this floor.
