Parkgate Street

So named because of the main city side entrance to the Phoenix Park. In 1786, the Wide Streets Commissioners were given permission to ‘alter and widen the road westward from Barrack Street to Island Bridge’. The western end became Conyngham Road, while the eastern end was called Park Gate Street.
